I love a fun kinda campy low-budget cdrama and I love talking to my friends about them, but man Nirvana in Fire is in it's own class as a cdrama. Nowhere near even the same ballpark of comparison but you can't really talk about it with people who haven't seen it.
I finished that show months and months ago and I've just rewatched some clips and wow I don't think any show has had me repeatedly gasping at the tension and drama at scenes which are basically just a couple people in a room and having exceedingly polite conversation (while doing so much secret political machinations with the conversation)
I can't share any scenes with my friends without going "ok yeah it looks like they're just standing around and talking politely, but with 30 episodes of context you would understand that this is actually an extremely tense high stakes conversation that could domino effect into half our protagonists being executed"
You know that thing about "share a screenshot from a show/game/etc that looks completely benign to someone who hasn't seen the thing, but is a Big Deal if you have"?
Yeah how to I explain that the sequence of this woman walking in to the Emperor's birthday banquet to talk to him had me jumping up out of my seat and yelling. Except the whole show is like that without context.
